Microsoft has
also said that
it will let Xiaomi Mi4
owners test the upcoming operating
system on their Androidbased smartphone.
In
its blog post, Microsoft said: "As part
of the Windows Insider
Program,Microsoft wi ll partner
with Xiaomi to offer Windows
10 free downloads
to a select
group of Xiaomi Mi 4 users. Xiaomi
Mi 4 users wi ll get the
ability to flash their phones with the
new Windows 10 OS and provide
feedback to Xiaomi and Microsoft on
their experience. This
partnership will allow Xiaomi and Microsoft to get
direct user feedback
and continue to improve
the experience for China. Microsoft i s
thrilled to see Xiaomi embracing Windows 10 and offering
this great value
to their customers. We're excited
to see the
feedback we receive from this audience."
Basically, this means
that the select Xiaomi users will
be able to run
Windows 10 on
their Mi 4 unis, and
the user data will
be used to
gauge their experience
of the operating
system.
Xiaomi , on i
ts part,
told online publication
The Next Web that this
is entirely a Microsoftled effort and
called it only
an experimental programme.
Though Xiaomi provides
weekly software updates to its Android based MIUI software, the Windows
10 ROM will be solely
supported by Technology website Tech Crunch's
sources say that Xiaomi
users who choose to
install this Windows 10 ROM
for Mi 4 will have
to lose out
on using Android on
their smartphones as the ROM does
not support dual boot
option. Instead, it will
offer a native Windows
10 experience on an
existing Android handset.
Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile
operating system is a distant
third in the
smartphone segment,which is
dominated by Android and
iOS. This new
strategy may help Microsoft reach
out to new users
even i f they
do not buy
a new handset
just to try
out Windows 10.
